FIIs (foreign institutional investors, now called FPIs) and DIIs (domestic institutions such as mutual funds and insurers) report their buying and selling in the cash market every day. NSE publishes provisional totals in the evening.
- Net = buy value − sell value. Positive means the group bought more than it sold.
- Large FII selling has often coincided with weak markets, and DIIs have often bought on those days.
- One day means little; the trend over weeks and the month totals say more.
These are cash-market figures only; derivatives positions are reported separately.
