Each reading is scored by where today stands against the last 250 trading days: 100 = the most greedy level of the year, 0 = the most fearful. The mood is their average. Extreme greed or Extreme fear is called only after two sessions in a row in that zone. Readings with too little history yet (Put-call ratio (NIFTY options): since 2015; Demand for protection (option skew): since 2015) are left out until they have it.

In India, greedy readings have mostly been followed by better months than fearful ones: strength tends to carry on. Volatility is the exception: a high VIX has been followed by better months. The links are weak, so this describes the mood; it does not forecast. Not enough history yet for: FII flows.

From India VIX, NIFTY and gold daily closes, the daily prices of every NSE stock, NSE's daily F&O files and FII cash figures. Information only, not investment advice.

What does the market mood show?

Whether traders are acting fearful or greedy compared with the last year: 0 is the most fearful reading of the year, 100 the most greedy.

How do traders use it?

As context. In India since 2007, extreme greed has more often been followed by a rising NIFTY than extreme fear (strength tends to carry on), but the link is weak: it describes the mood; it does not predict the next move.

Why is a reading over 75 not called Extreme greed?

Extreme greed and Extreme fear are called only after two sessions in a row in that zone, so one wild day does not flip the label.

How often does it update?

Through the trading day from live prices; FII figures and option readings arrive each evening.
