What is a SIF?
A Specialised Investment Fund (SIF) is a SEBI category launched in 2025, run by mutual fund houses, that sits between mutual funds and portfolio management services (PMS). SIFs can use strategies mutual funds cannot, such as long-short (betting on some shares falling as well as others rising, with up to 25% of the fund in short positions through derivatives). The minimum investment is ₹10 lakh across an investor's SIFs at a fund house.

What is the minimum investment in a SIF?
₹10 lakh across an investor's SIFs at a fund house; accredited investors are exempt.
How is a SIF different from a mutual fund?
SIFs can take short positions (up to 25% of the fund through derivatives) and run more concentrated strategies. They are for investors who can take more risk and invest at least ₹10 lakh.
How is a SIF different from PMS?
PMS needs ₹50 lakh and holds shares in your own account; a SIF is a pooled fund with units and a daily NAV, like a mutual fund.
