How the SIP calculator works

Each month's instalment grows at the expected return from the month it is invested: future value = P × [((1 + i)n − 1) / i] × (1 + i), where P is the monthly amount, i the monthly return and n the number of months. With a step-up, the instalment rises by that % every year.

Estimates only: real returns vary from year to year, and taxes and fund expenses are not included.

Information only, not investment advice.

What is a SIP?

A systematic investment plan: a fixed amount invested in a mutual fund every month. Buying every month averages out the price you pay.

What return should I assume?

Many people use 10–12% a year for equity funds over long periods, but returns vary a lot from year to year. The real-fund section shows what an actual fund returned.
